Cuts to bus services through Hockley
Jan 2009
Arriva are still proceeding with their proposed cuts to the bus services through Hockley. Despite telling a crowded meeting in December that they would consider the various suggestions for extending the services, they have in fact done nothing significant
Their reasoning for this is that there are not enough passengers for a more frequent service and the figures they supplied certainly justify this. However, any person using the service or observing the buses will know that their figures are ridiculously low and bear no relation to the actual usage.
Where do our councillors stand in all this? Essex CC have said that the proposed service meets their desired minimum levels of service. They quote Arriva's ridiculous figures to justify not providing a subsidy to improve the service. We wonder how many councillors use buses.
Rochford District Council "is fervently opposed to any cuts to any public transport services". We wait impatiently to see what form this opposition will take. Bear in mind that the cuts were first mooted some months ago and are now due in a matter of days.
Arriva are ignoring our suggestions and our revised passenger figures and the cuts are due on 7th Feb. We NEED public support if these cuts are to be over turned. Please write to:-
