Children's Art - September 2007
The Public Library in Southend Road, Hockley recently held a special event for young children – My Hockley Village. The children were asked:-
- What is the Best thing about your Village?
- What is the Worst thing about your Village?
- If you could make one thing different what would it be?
They were then asked to draw a picture or write about what they would like to see in their village.
The Hockley Parish Plan Group offered a prize for the best effort and promised to publish it in the forthcoming Parish Plan.
There was a good turnout of children and their parents and some interesting ideas, such as more swings and playgrounds, more parks, fewer takeaways and a bigger range of shops, fewer cars and their pollution, smoother pavements and green man crossings.
The Parish Plan Group chose an entry from Alice Marshall aged 8 and it will appear in the plan.
The chairman of the Group, David Fryer-Kelsey presented her with her prize at the library on Saturday 15th September.
It’s nice to see that the children are enthusiastic to give their views if given the chance.
A great pity that the three primary schools felt they were too busy to allow the children to contribute anything to the Parish Plan.
