Greensward College students viewpoint
On 14th November some of the students at Greensward College were given the chance to voice their opinions on the Community, Environment and other matters concerning Hockley.
The Parish Plan Group, working with the College and Rochford District Council used interactive technology to allow the students to list the words which describe the good and the bad things about Hockley and then select the six most important issues.
Over forty students took part and the results were very interesting.
- They think it is a friendly community with nice people, good sports facilities, good mix of shops, they like Hockley woods and the green spaces and they like the schools.
- They don’t like moody or mean people, drunks, disorderly behaviour, drugs, mopeds in woods and parks, graffiti, rubbish and litter, traffic.
- They particularly don’t like the gangs hanging around.
- They would like more to do, more places to go, a youth centre.
All this forms a valuable contribution to the questionnaire we are drawing up for circulation to all the residences and businesses in Hockley in the new year. It is just part of the process of ensuring that the questions asked are relevant to the residents of Hockley, no matter their age.
